No More BYOB at Dogtown St. Patrick’s Day Parade

Organizers of the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Dogtown announced today they will ban revelers from bringing their own alcohol to the annual event. To enforce the ban, the Ancient Order of Hibernians will man more than 20 security checkpoints around the south St. Louis neighborhood.

Anyone who wants to attend the parade, which starts at 12:30 p.m. on March 17, must enter the neighborhood through the checkpoints. Paradegoers may have backpacks and coolers searched. Anyone trying to smuggle alcohol into the neighborhood will be turned away, an organizer said. Alcohol will be available for sale in the parade area, and paradegoers are allowed to bring food, water and soda. Glass containers also are banned.

The Hibernians, a fraternal group that plans the Dogtown parade, said the new rules are intended to reduce underage drinking and cut down on trash that often litters the neighborhood’s streets and sidewalks after the event.

Bummer. We attend this parade every year and for the past 5 years or so have been organizing a family float. I wonder what my uncles will say about this?? It will surely make the Dogtown bars some money. I am curious to see how they will lock down Dogtown. The parade is just weeks away…and this is the first I have heard of this new rule. What about the people who live ON the parade route. They can’t drink the beer in their fridge??

Here is the new blog!  I have some more work to do but I think it’s definitely an improvement. The only hitch is the new URL.  It couldn’t be avoided at this time but hopefully I will be able to iron that kink out as well.  But, no need to forget the old address…it will automatically direct you here.

Head to Tail Dinner NYC

Master of all things offal and renowned chef Chris Consentino (Incanto, San Francisco) brings his signature “Head to Tail” dinner to New York City for the first time. Hosted by author and journalist Michael Ruhlman, the dinner will include an all-offal menu (including dishes such as beef heart tartar, venison liver crudo, and roasted lamb neck), wine pairing, and an “I Love Offal” commemorative button.
